Tulare County Sheriff Deputy Shot And Killed

View descriptionShare

A Tulare County deputy was fatally shot while serving an eviction notice in Porterville Thursday morning. The suspect, identified as 60-year-old David Morales, opened fire with a high-powered rifle and is currently barricaded inside the home. Multiple SWAT teams are securing nearby homes and schools remain on lockdown as the standoff continues.

Three Porterville Unified campuses—Westfield Elementary, Sequoia Middle, and Monache High—were secured as deputies, Porterville PD, SWAT, and negotiators responded to a nearby deputy-involved shooting and barricaded suspect. Parents were advised to wait for official pickup instructions; buses won’t run, and walking home is not permitted while the response continues.
